Position Summary
OSS is looking for a Spacecraft Navigation Engineer to support the development and testing of navigation algorithms/systems for NASA/JSC manned spacecraft projects including Orion, Gateway, Commercial Crew, and Human Landing System (HLS). You should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Design and develop navigation algorithms for the integrated GN&C system for NASA spacecraft
* Integrate, test, and analyze navigation algorithms in a 6-DOF GN&C environment
* Provide oversight of the design and functionality of commercial partner's navigation systems
* Formally document the results of all design and analysis activities
* Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or closely related field) from an ABET accredited school and a minimum of 4+ years of related engineering experience, or a Master's degree from an accredited engineering school and 2+ years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Coursework and/or in-depth knowledge of several of the following:
* Linear and non-linear state estimation theory
* Linear covariance analysis
* Numerical methods
* Astrodynamics
* Familiarity with relative navigation concepts
* Knowledge in the design, analysis, and implementation of navigation algorithms
* Experience with spacecraft simulation modeling and analysis of integrated GN&C systems
* Experience programming in C/C++ and knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink
* The proven ability to solve complex total GN&C system and simulation problems
PREFERENCES:
* Minimum of an MS in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
* Knowledge of image processing
* Knowledge of inertial sensors
